The Ultimate Wigan Athletic Website Home Page

Links here are shown in red and underlined.

Information for Away Fans can be found here.

Inside this site, you'll not only find the normal things you find on every site like News, Results, Fixtures, current League Table, Information about the Club and Information about the current Squad, but you'll be able to have a look at Latics' fashion over the years, see what the programmes for their big matches over the years have looked like, and learn something about Wigan Borough, Latics' predecessors in the League.

You can even have a look at the score of EVERY LEAGUE AND CUP MATCH that Latics have ever played in, listed by opponents. How about that for sorting out those arguments!!

Have a look around our grounds - old and new - and relive Latics' first championship season, way back in the 1930s, as well as our first ever League game, and the day we went to Wembley and won the Autowindscreens Shield. I don't use frames, pop-up windows, flashy Java applets - deliberately. You want to see the stuff - and see it fast.

Enjoy your tour around the best (or at least the most informative) and certainly oldest Latics' site in the world!!

By the way - that's me in the blue coat!!

WHO ARE WE?

Read about the 2002/2003 season

Wigan Athletic, or The Latics were the 2002/2003 champions of Division Two. Thanks to huge financial backing from Dave Whelan (owner of JJB Sports) we are a club with ambition, and what we learnt in the 2003/2004 season will hopefully provide a springboard to even greater achievements. We even have a famous fan!

In 1996-97 we lifted the Third Division Championship and, having consolidated our position in 1997-1998 we narrowly missed out on promotion to Division One in both 1998-99 and 1999-2000 in the play-offs. We were six minutes away from the big prize in 2000!

We missed out again in the 2001 play-offs, and were getting a bit fed up with being just "ambitious" Wigan. We appointed "ex-Latics mon" Paul Jewell for the 2001-02 campaign, but unfortunately things didn't quite go as we would have liked, and mid-table was the best we could do.

However in 2002/2003 all fell into place and Latics won the title with ease, and for 2003/2004 played in the First Division for the first time in the club's albeit short League history. And things went pretty well, only missing out on a play-off spot in the last minutes of the first season, gaining automatic promotion to the Premiership for 2005/2006.

We are looking forward to now playing in the Premiership, and visits from Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United etc etc coming up - things are far far different from wet Tuesday nights against Barnet and Colchester!

We have a magificent 25,000 all-seater JJB Stadium at Robin Park (making it a bit easier for you away fans to find us) well suited to top-level football. The stadium is fitted for Premiership. World beware! Wigan Athletic have arrived and we aren't going away. The next target is Europe.
